Protecting Your Business In a Disaster
As a business owner we must not only plan to
protect ourselves and our families from natural
disaster but we must also prepare our business
as well. Backing up our business data at an
offsite location is the best way to protect from
loss.
Imagine this: you have a fire in your office
that destroys your equipment and files. The fire
department shows up and puts out the fire, but
anything not destroyed by the fire has now been
soaked with water. Even the most faithful
efforts at data backup are fruitless in the
event of such a disaster.
While we need to make data backups for use in
our offices, it is important to have a backup
location outside our geographic areas. At
Big Vision Design, we use both onsite and
offsite backups for our clients to ensure that
your site will not be destroyed in the event of
a disaster. Your site files are stored in Kansas
City and locations around the world.
If you need data backup, a rudimentary search
using the keywords "offsite data backup" will
bring you plenty of companies offering this service.
Don't wait until you have lost your data to
understand the importance of backup. A recent
study of companies who have experienced data
loss due to a disaster shows that 50% never
reopen and 90% close within two years.
Make sure you have a plan to protect your
business. While we all hope to avoid disasters,
we can still limit potential damage through wise
planning.
The Windows Logo Key
Recently I was working with a client who was
unfamiliar with the Windows logo keys on her
keyboard. This was not the first time I ran into
someone who did not know what to do with that
key, so I decided the next time I sent out a
newsletter, I would include some basic uses.
These shortcuts work for either the left or
right logo key; it
doesn't matter which one you use.
Windows: Display the Start menu
Windows + D: Minimize or restore all windows
Windows + E: Display Windows Explorer
Windows + F: Display Search for files
Windows + Ctrl + F: Display Search for computer
Windows + F1: Display Help and Support Center
Windows + R: Display Run dialog box
Windows + U: Open Utility Manager
Podcasting - The New Internet Craze
Podcasting is the newest technology to hit the
internet and is quickly becoming one of the
web's best features. It's like radio for the web
- only better. You can download podcasts, which
are simply mp3 files, and listen to them
anytime, anywhere. The name Podcasting implies
the need for Apple's iPod, but that is not the
case. Any mp3 player, or any computer, will play
Podcasts.
Why is this important to you? Because podcasts
are an incredibly effective tool for site
promotion. As the podcasting craze continues to
grow, more people are seeking out podcasts. That
means potential customers are actually
looking for you!
